Lucy's Front Cover Page Mockup

I am going to use this mock-up as a base for my final fornt cover. I like the idea of having the main image filling the page and even covering some of the masthead. This will ensure that it stands out to the audience. I want to have various small sell lines around the page in order to make the page look interesting and to advertise what is in the magazine. We also think that the barcode and price is an important thing to have as this is a main feature of all the magazines that we have looked at and we want ours to be as realistic and professional looking as possible.

WIll's Front Cover Mockup

I have tried to make my mock-up simple yet stand out. I want it to be clear what the mesage is. I have used a large main image and placed in central. I have tried to make the masthead stand out. I also placed the anchor text near the image to show that it relates to the main image.

Fran's Front Cover Page Mockup

We want to use one image on the front of our magazine to make sure that they are the main focus, as we looked at other rock magazines and decided we didn't like the other images on the front cover. We are also using a lot of sell lines as well feel they are very eye catching. We are also using a skyline, as we want to make it as proffesional as possible.

Jordan's Front Cover Page Mock Up

When thinking about how to put my front page of my magazine together I decided to take into consideration how professional magazines would put theirs together to get the desired effect. The barcode would be placed in the bottom corner and would be as small as possible so that it doesn't take any attention away from the main view point of the magazine, things such as skyline's, mastheads and sell lines would be very necessary as this would help to fill the cover of the magazine so that it doesn't look to bare.

Fran's Edited Cover Photo

Here i have cropped the photo and added black tights onto the girl on the right. I have made the picture brighter to make a more professional finish. I have also edited the girl in the middle to create a more defined waist, as well as using the healing tool to give all the whole bands skin a smoother finish. I have edited each girls eyes to make them stand out more and when i put onto my actual magazine I will get rid of the shadow surrounding them.

Lucy's Cover Photo After Editing

I am really happy with this photo now i have edited it. I edited the photograph using photoshop. I used brightness and contrast to make the photo look brighter overall. I feel that now it looks brighter it looks more professional and is more interesting to look at. I think that this will look good on the front of my magazine. I also edited the skin tone of the models faces using the healing brush and reduced the glare on Will's glasses using Iphoto. Now i have edited these things i think that it looks more professional and the photograph is of a higher standard.

Will's Cover Photo After Editing

This is has been edited using brightness and contrast. the photo stands out and will hopefully make my front cover a higher slandered.

Jordan's Cover Photo After Editing

After applying all of the techniques I planned to do in photoshop I feel that this photo is much more professional and worthy for the front cover of a magazine. The clothes stand out more as do the lips and the hair, the whole background is white and they take up the whole frame which purely makes them the subject.

Fran's Cover Photo Before Editing

I am going to crop the picture and change the brightness/contrast to help improve the picture for my magazine. I also going to add balck tights onto the girl on the right so she not only fits in with the rest of the band, but also because i don't like the way you can see her socks. I also going to use the healing brush to smooth their skin.

Lucy's Cover Photo Before Editing

I really like this photo and plan to use it as my front cover photo. I like the way that they are hiddled quite close together, however wills hand comes out at the audience, which i hope would attract people to this magazine. I think that this photo is a little dark therefore i will edit it and make it brighter, which i will also do with the background of this photo. I will also edit their skintone in order to make the photo look professional.

Jordan's Cover Photo Before Editing

With this photograph I intend to crop it down so that we do not have the blue gap on the left hand side of the photo, I am also going to brighten the picture and raise the contrast so that we have deeper colours for things like their clothes, hair, lipstick etc.  I will also use the spot tool to get rid of any marks or blemishes that are on the skin to make it more professional.

Will's Cover Photo Before Editing

I will change the brightness and contrast of my image to help make it stand out on the page. I would also like to use spot tool to help get the best out of this photo. I may change the brightness on my glasses if I have time.

Audience Research Discussion

After carrying out our audience research we had a discussion on what we had found out. We found this very useful as it meant that we could fully decide on what we needed to use and incorporate into our final magazines. We put the camera on a tripod to allow us all to feature in the film and no-one had the responsibility of filming. Fran and Lucy developed the questions and what we would say and then Jordan and Will then edited the footage together.

Fran's Double Page Spread Analysis

I liked this double page spread as it featured a well-known artist, Lily Allen. I really liked the text used in the main quote as i thought that this was really eye-catching. I hope to use a similarly eye-catching font in my final double page spread. I also liked the way that the picture was so big and eye-catching to the reader.

Will's Double Page Spread Analysis

This Double page spread really interested me I want to use techniques found in this double page spread and use them in my final double page. I like the way it is very casual with the image and tag lines being bold and standing out.

Lucy's Double Page Spread Analysis

I liked the colour theme on this double page spread of red, white and black. I thought that this looked interesting as it is mainly filled with photographs and their is actually very little text. Although this makes the double page look eye-catching when i create my own i will use more text and less pictures as i think that this looks better and is more interesting for the reader.

Jordan's Double Page Spread Analysis

Again I have decided that the use of black on white is not as clear as it could be. I found this part enjoyable as I found out lots of new techniques used for a double page spread. I like the use of the large image as it helps break up the text from the image.

Photo Shoot Plan

Once we had decided on the theme of our magazine the first task was to take the photographs that would feature in it. Both Will and Jordan are photography students therefore they asked their photographt teacher to hire out the studio and equipment. We asked our friends to model for us and Fran and Lucy took charge of the design and overall look of the photographs whilst Jordan and Will used their photography skills to take the photographs.

Our Copy of a Front Cover

After finding this front cover from Kerrang magazine, we decided to create our own in order to enhance our photo-shop skills. We used a picture of our friend and then copied what was on the original. We worked as a team on this piece however Jordan took the lead in taking the photographs and the editing stages. As a group we now feel that we have enhanced our editing skills and are all more confident when working with photo-shop.

Audience Research

As a group we all contributed to creating the audience research. Fran and Jordan asked the questions and Lucy and Fran wrote the questions. Will and Fran edited the video, Lucy and Will filmed it. We found the audience research task interesting and fun. We were able to work as a group, asking our friends and peers their views on the different aspects of rock magazines and music. This is very useful for us as when we go on to create our own magazine we can see what people would want and the type of magazines that they would buy.
